Katerina Shadowseeker

Katerina is a fairly young, diminutive elf - at 4'5" and 75#, most other elves and even dwarves are taller than she. Her floor-length (or longer) dark gold hair is usually braided or arranged in a simple, flowing style, and her green eyes miss nothing.

Katerina always dresses well, usually in a combination of silk and leather in various shades of green,  with gold embroidery. Her dressiest outfit is typical: finely-tailored forest-green trousers with thick golden stripes up the sides, topped with a lighter green tunic w/ maple, oak & chestnut leaves embroidered in gold thread, and belted by a sash with a golden elm leaf buckle set with an emerald. A green velvet cap embroidered w/ gold leaves, a light green floor-length velvet cloak lined in pale green satin, and knee-high boots of green leather with tooled designs of birch and elm leaves complete the ensemble.

Her adventuring garb, or that in which she can be seen around the city, is far simpler, but of similar style and quality. It usually consists of trousers and a loose shirt, snug vest, decorative scarf, and a cloak. A sapphire-adorned silver ring, recognizable as a Fellowship Ring, graces one finger, and a plain gold band another. A circlet adorns her head, holding her hair away from her face, and her hair is often pinned by a hairpin in the shape of a phoenix.  Around her waist are belted a shortsword and dagger, both of excellent quality, and a shortbow and harpcase are slung over one shoulder.

On special occasions the short sword is replaced by a scimitar that appears to be made of gold.

In town, Katerina is accompanied by her familiar, Whisper, and a large black dog, Sable. Outside of town, Zarae, Katerina's gypsy-given bonded warhorse, joins them. Topaz, her small poodle, stays home.

Background and Personality

While Katerina makes no secret of the fact that she is originally from Silverymoon, she has never said what caused her to wish to come to Ravens Bluff, or anything of her adventures in traveling here. As far as the folk of Ravens Bluff know, she arrived one day about 7 years ago and has served the city in various capacities ever since.

At first a little shy and very quiet, over the years Katerina has grown in confidence and assertiveness. She prefers to work as the scout of the team, often alone, but communicates well with her team and often becomes the leader for adventuring missions. Often serious, sometimes playful, she enjoys teasing her friends - particularly those who are knights - when they seem inclined to take themselves too seriously. Still, she retains some of her shyness and while she seems to be popular and has many acquaintences, she doesn't appear to have many close friends.

When working she is efficient and focused, and sometimes even grim. She has a strong personal moral and ethical code, and expects others to live up to the codes that they follow. She shows mercy for her opponents, and generosity to  the downtrodden, but her assistance to them takes the form of teaching, encouraging, or assisting them to better themselves rather than simply giving them money - a solution she regards as too often a temporary one.

Katerina has no known close personal attachments other than her animals, and lives quietly in a respectable middle-class section of Ravens Bluff. She is popular with the neighborhood children, who love to play with Sable and Topaz, and who will care for them when she must be away from home.

Recently, Katerina has been spending a good deal of her time at the Bard's Guild. After considering membership for many years, she recently decided to join the Fellowship of Performers, and has been teaching and practicing swordwork with the Blades. In particular, she has been sparring with Darcy Dunlaoghaire, also a new Bard's Guild member, Fellowship of Blades. This has also brought her into contact with Darcy's brother Padraig, a Bard and member of the Fellowship of Performers, and the three of them can often be seen sharing a meal at the Guild.

Over the past few months, Katerina has been extremely busy on missions for the city and others. The apparent increasing unrest in the city, and modified priorities, have made Katerina reconsider staying in Ravens Bluff at the moment. She has been invited to visit the Moonshae Isles with the Dunlaoghaire siblings, and has in turn offered to guide them around Silverymoon. Katerina has thus decided to take a leave of absence from adventuring in the City of Ravens, and she and her friends will be leaving Ravens Bluff shortly for points west.

Katerina has never mentioned family, nor friends from the time before she arrived in Ravens Bluff.

Newfoundland is a breed of working dog noted for rescuing persons from the sea. The Newfoundland is a huge, characteristically gentle and patient dog standing 26 to 28 inches (66 to 71 cm) and weighing 110 to 150 pounds (50 to 68 kg). Powerful hindquarters, a large lung capacity, large webbed feet, and a heavy, oily coat contribute to the dog's ability to swim and to withstand cold waters. In addition to rescue work, the Newfoundland has served as a watchdog and companion and as a draft animal. The typical Newfoundland is solid black. Working dogs are characterized by strength and alertness, intelligence and loyalty.

SQ: This exceptional light warhorse is a gift from the gypsy leader Istavan Turos as thanks for the assistance of the PC named above. This beautiful chestnut mare has been trained as a War Animal (Attack, Come, Defend, Drag, Home, and Play Dead) and understands both verbal and hand signals. After three months, her bond with the PC is such that she has learned to interpret her rider's body language. The rider receives a +2 insight bonus to Ride skill checks when riding this horse ONLY. If the PC already has this feat, then no additional benefit is gained. This horse will not bond to a new rider.

Topaz is a poodle, a little noisy, but playful and an excellent companion. He is cute, with a dark, shiny coat and chocolate brown eyes.
