The following information is to be given the players of Qabalist Heroes. This handout represents information the Qabalist has received over the course of the past three years as the White Rose has attempted to investigate the Brotherhood of the Coin.
In 1896 a Keeper in the service of the White Rose living in London died of natural causes. As with all Keepers, this one’s will dictated that all of his worldly goods were to be sold at auction following his death. At the auction, another qabal know as the Brotherhood of the Coin interfered with the White Rose’s attempt to reclaim four silver coins rumored to be some of the thirty pieces of silver paid to Judas Iscariot for betraying Christ. The four Brotherhood of the Coin’s representatives were found dead in their carriage the next day. The White Rose members who discovered them noted that driver was missing and in the pocket of each victim was a small silver medallion with a picture of a broken cross with the words “Et scire et tacere” engraved in a circle around the medallion. Translated it means “Both to know and to keep silent.”
The White Rose soon discovered the London headquarters of the Brotherhood of the Coin had
been burned to the ground the same evening. Searching the wreckage of the London Coin
House, making use of its network of Qablalists, and judiciously employing the skills of its senior
Adepts and Mystics, the White Rose began a exhaustive search for any sign of the Brotherhood
of the Coin. It became apparent that this qabal was widespread throughout Europe and the near
east, but very compartmentalized within the area surrounding the city in which each Coin House
was located. It also became clear that someone was working as hard to exterminate the
Brotherhood of the Coin as the White Rose was working to find them. Coin Houses and
Brotherhood operatives across Europe were destroyed almost as quickly as the White Rose was
able to discern their presence or identity. Paris fell in late 1896, with the Coin House literally
exploding the very day its location was confirmed. Moscow, Jerusalem, Alexandria and Berlin
were revealed and destroyed mysteriously in 1897. In 1898, the Coin House in Brussels is the
only Coin House known to suffer a similar fate.
The same vast resources, including you, deployed to find the Brotherhood of the Coin have been unable to provide any insight or leads into the nature of the person or people hunting the Brotherhood.
